Analysis: Reimagining Obama after gutsy raid - Really? The
following was posted on an open thread of the Gretawire blog of
Greta van Susteren (Fox News), where it was attributed by a reader as a
quote from Victor Davis Hanson: "...It’s also
easier to conduct assassinations abroad if the Commander-in-Chief is
liberal. This neutralizes criticism from the media, universities, the
legal community, and Hollywood. Obama the law professor can assassinate
bin Laden in Pakistan, dump his body in the ocean, and with first-person
emphasis boast of our brilliant mission in a way Bush the Texan could
not get away with—in the same manner that killing the son of Qaddafi,
and the effort to kill Qaddafi himself, are not really forbidden
targeted assassinations under Obama, and in the manner that Guantánamo,
tribunals, renditions, preventive detentions, Predators, wiretaps, and
intercepts that so bothered Senator Obama and others are now deemed
essential. This paradox is just the way it is; the media will report a
liberal president’s Predator drone attack or commando hit as done with
reluctance and without other viable choices. Were a conservative leader
to take the same actions, he would be portrayed as a trigger-happy
war-monger reveling in the violence. Thus, the street celebrations that
ensued when news of bin Laden’s death broke are seen by the media as a
new unity inspired by Obama. Three years ago, they would have been seen
as macabre triumphalism."
Well said! The media keeps talking about how "gutsy"
Obama was to authorize this mission, while ignoring the obvious. If he
had not authorized it, and word had leaked out prior to the 2012
election that there had been a chance to get UBL and he dithered and let
him escape, any chance of a second term would have been over.
If he had bombed the compound, there was a significant
risk of failure as well as far more civilian casualties, such as the
women and children, and the difficulty of proving success through
Pakistani analysis of the rubble. What if the Pakistanis couldn't find
enough of UBL to positively identify him, or chose not to do so because
it might be more to their political advantage to claim that it wasn't
really him? What if they preferred to highlight the dead women and
children to put pressure on Obama to stop drone attacks, and thereby
appease the vocal public critics in Pakistan? The Seal mission was
really his only viable option. Yes, there was still some risk of
failure, but that risk was mainly to the Seals, not himself. |
|
May 6, 2011 -
Bin Laden eyed US rails from his secret compound
- Another report suggested that potential targets were in Washington
DC, New York, and Chicago. Missing from any of the reports is mention of
how curiously different from Al Qaeda tactics this threat would be,
unless multiple attacks were staged simultaneously for greater effect.
In short, derailing one train would attract attention by killing some
people, but it's not the sort of spectacular event that they preferred
in the past. Instead, it's a very different tactic which requires almost
no resources and perhaps no more than one saboteur without much training
who isn't even willing to die for the cause. This could well be a red
herring to distract from a real plan. The design of his compound shows
that he expected to be found and killed there at some point, even if he
wasn't really keen to become a martyr and preferred to hide in comfort.
|
|
May 5, 2011 -
Info from Osama raid shows interest in US trains - Perhaps
Biden's favorite Amtrak line? Given Obama's interest in high-speed
rail projects, this should not be surprising, but it could just be
disinformation to distract us. The design of UBL's compound
suggests that he fully expected to be discovered and attacked there
someday, and he was a polished liar. |

May 1, 2011 - Congratulations to the Obama administration and to
the CIA and military team which finally tracked down and killed Osama
bin Laden near
Abbottabad, Pakistan. Good riddance. For those
unfamiliar with this region of Pakistan, this city is a short distance
north of Islamabad beyond the Margalla Hills at the start of the
strategic Karakoram Highway to Gilgit and Hunza (and the border of
China). Rather than a location in the tribal areas of the
northwest frontier near Afghanistan such as Peshawar or Waziristan or up
in Swat, this is not terribly far from the disputed region of Kashmir in
the north. Although there is a military academy
and many military residents in the community, and it certainly is
suspicious that bin Laden could hide in such a town, it should be noted
that military officers have run Pakistan for much of its history, and
have invested in real estate developments in almost any community of
significant size. The homes of the wealthy and powerful stand in
pretty stark contrast to the rest of the population, and Pakistanis
learn to not ask too many questions about them.
This compound should certainly have attracted the
attention of ISI as an unusual development, but such homes would
typically belong to wealthy, powerful, and well-connected people about
whom ordinary people would be cautious about asking too many questions
without knowing who they are, and who may be protecting them.
"Hiding in plain sight" is certainly not an automatic indicator of top
official government collusion beyond any local corruption to not ask
questions, but some local people were probably paid off with a cover
story about this property. After all, the government would
otherwise want to know where the money came from to build such a home,
even though tax fraud is pretty common in Pakistan. Indeed,
communities such as this in which retired military and government
officials may reside can be expected to have large homes about which few
questions are asked about the source of the wealth behind them. It
made sense for bin Laden to hide in such a place.
In any case, it is worth noting that Obama did Pakistan a
favor by removing the body, instead of just bombing the site or leaving
him there for the ISI to identify, bury, and deal with any resulting
angry mobs or shrine as a martyr. Why not leave him? We were
finished with him once he was dead and we had whatever intelligence
materials we could gather. Although the helicopters were able to
sneak into Abbottabad by evading air defenses, it seems odd that they
were able to escape after 45 minutes on the ground and a helicopter
crash without being challenged by scrambling the Pakistani air force. |

|
January 9, 2011 -
Democratic leader: Cool the political rhetoric - Perhaps Dick
Durbin and
Steny Hoyer, who made similar remarks about the attempted murder of
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, would like to denounce the latest article by
Frances Fox Piven in The Nation this week, in which she openly advocated
violence by the unemployed against leaders. Others in the media
and on the left have quickly asserted that GIffords was "targeted" by
SarahPAC for defeat in the 2010 election by a "Tea Party" candidate.
The provocative rhetoric by Democrats in Congress last week wasn't
exactly cool. It is despicable that they are already trying to
exploit this outrageous and senseless act of violence by one deranged
man for political advantage. His violent actions were crazy.
Theirs are pre-meditated, provocative acts of political innuendo to
exploit this atrocity.

Obama: Dems, GOP must cooperate in new year - Translation: The
GOP must accept his agenda, or else be blamed for any problems in 2012.
The lame duck session did not set a precedent as a commitment to
cooperation in 2011. It's time for the GOP leadership (not just in
Congress) to assert itself and show that it actually stands for
something, such as the Constitutional role of a limited federal
government and how it respects state and local government and voters.
We don't elect politicians to rule over us or run our
country. We run our country and make the economy successful through the
choices we make in our individual lives and how we choose to work
together with others in our communities. We delegate certain limited
tasks of governance to elected officials and the bureaucracy they
oversee on our behalf. They aren't there to do as they please and impose
all of their own ideas on us about how they think they can make this
country better. We'll create our own progress, thank you very much. We
don't rely on state central planning for it. |

Remember the Reykjavik summit with Reagan and Gorbachev? It wasn't the

sides are interpreting it the same way, rather than leaving it open to
disputes about the intended meaning (as in the preamble reference to
missile defense). I am less impressed by Obama's statement in that
regard than by the absence of any similarly definitive statement from
the Russian leaders. When Putin comes back to power, will he still
interpret it the same way? Distrust and verify. |

Bill preventing big tax hikes heads to Obama Fri. - Pelosi is
still pushing class warfare rhetoric, and many other Democrats (and
Republicans) still didn't get the message either, as shown by the narrow
defeat of the omnibus budget atrocity. The illusory bipartisanship (139D
- 138R in favor, and 148 against) shows that despite flipping 63
districts in 2010, we have more work to do in 2012. There are 23
Democratic (and 10 Republican) incumbents in the Senate who must face
voters again in 2012. We need to flip about 50 more districts in
the House in 2012 so that no incumbent feels "safe" enough to show such
contempt for Americans, regardless of income or any other group in which
they may be categorized to isolate and vilify them by the progressive
radical playbook. We are all in this fight

Clinton worried by talk of cutting US foreign aid - If Hillary
Clinton is so worried about the foreign aid budget, she should welcome
more scrutiny in Congress about where the money goes, and how effective
it is at serving our national interests. After all, we are effectively
borrowing money from China and elsewhere to dole it out on programs
which from an emotional standpoint we may feel are worthy causes, such
as humanitarian purposes, but which we really can't afford.
Would you go into debt to give money to charity? Would
you do that if the charity involved didn't even say thank you, or use
your money wisely for the intended purpose? Would you do that to prop up
failed regimes by mitigating the harm they cause, so that their abuses
can continue? We should invest wisely in what is actually in our
national interest after a very critical review of our global priorities.
We should invest more in what really works, and throw less money away on
the rest. |

stimulus payments for those who don't pay taxes, and don't agree to let
the estate tax return at all (even at the $5 million / 35% rate). Keep
it simple - extend the existing tax rates for all for more than just 2
years. Time for a little brinksmanship. If the Dems want to

created already for next year. Otherwise, they're just going to
wait and blame that on the new Congress, even though this Congress
created the mess and still won't cut spending. |
|
December 2, 2010 -
Heading off tax increases: Compromise taking shape
OK, since Pelosi wants to play hardball, the GOP
leadership should hold out for at least a 10 year extension of the tax
cuts for all, and block all other pending legislation until they get it.
A 2 - 3 year extension just prolongs the uncertainty for individuals and
businesses. If necessary, hold out until January, when it will be even
harder for Obama and Reid to push their other agenda items through the
Senate. They were the ones who chose to stall this action for years in
the hope that they could raise taxes and spend more, as they did already
to create this economic mess. There have to be consequences for bad
behavior. Ratification of START should not be rammed through
without the advice and consent process of the new Senate.

Walloping the Middle Class - The impact of the expiration of the

Examples as described in the article per the
Tax Foundation:
 | Income $40,000 single mom - taxes go up $1,607 |
 | Income $45,000 family of four - taxes go up $2,083 |
 | Income $120,000 (two income couple, 2 kids) - taxes
go up $4,499 |

|
The Democrats have had control of Congress since 2006
if they wanted to extend these
tax cuts. They didn't intend to do so. They had the votes, with no excuses. The Republicans
could not have blocked it since 2008. They chose to spend more
instead, and tried to also raise other types of new taxes, such as
through cap and trade and other initiatives. Note
that those at the lowest marginal tax rate (10%) are at risk of it going
up to 15% - a massive increase. As for the estate tax, which hurts
many businesses, the Democrats have a plan. Die quickly - before
the estate tax comes back on January 1. |

Social Security advocates fear payroll tax cut - Watch for Obama
to argue by 2012 that the income cap on Social Security contributions
should be raised substantially so that the wealthy pay more - allegedly
to make up for the revenues lost through this temporary cut. They've
been wanting to raise the cap for years at the same time as they means
test benefits to ensure that the wealthy will never get much out of the
system. Besides, if they can make the system less reliant on worker
contributions and more reliant on borrowing funded by general tax
revenues, that can create a de facto transfer of wealth to serve their
class warfare agenda. The workers pay less, and thus are grateful to the
Dems for giving them more take-home pay, and taxpayers at higher incomes

other tax cuts. Negotiate from there, after all the Democrats go on the
record voting against the tax rate extension. There are 23 Democratic
Senators up for election in 2012. Put them on the spot to defend their
class warfare agenda.
Contrary to what Obama said, we did actually vote for gridlock. We also
voted for less government, not more, so that we can achieve lower debt
and lower taxes. The White House and media is trying to use opinion
polls to suggest that the actual results of the recent election don't
really matter. It was a historic repudiation of the Obama-Reid-Pelosi
agenda, but they still think that the Republicans should cave in to
their agenda. |
November 30, 2010 -
AP-CNBC Poll: Deficit-cutting ideas not popular - Don't be
fooled by the AP-CNBC poll. It isn't limited to active voters, or to
taxpayers. Thus, people with no "skin in the game" can easily express
the view that somebody else's taxes should be raised, rather than their
own, or that budget cuts shouldn't affect any programs which benefit
them.
We just had an election a few weeks ago. Who won? Didn't they tell us
that elections have consequences? Didn't Obama say that is why we have
elections - back when he thought he could win support for the healthcare
law just by educating the ignorant masses through speeches about his own
brilliance? Ditto for this issue. They lost the debate, even if they
still have enough votes to make it difficult to extend the current tax
rates for all. Let them defeat that proposition, and then keep pushing
it in January with the new House so that the Democrats have to go on
record repeatedly as supporting tax increases after people start to see
the impact on their own paychecks. |

atrocity to grow government, raise food costs, and limit choices for
consumers. Remember in 2012, when 23 Democratic Senators (including 2

Republicans. Michelle Malkin blog -

FDA would boost food inspections under Senate bill - The
Senate is on the verge of passing a "food safety" bill to greatly expand
the regulatory bureaucracy and powers of the FDA and USDA. This may
please some large corporations in the agriculture and food processing
industry, but it will crush many small farmers, ranchers, local farmers
markets, etc. as the bureaucracy asserts greater authority over every
aspect of the food supply chain until it collapses. Tell your Senator
that if they vote to pass this, you will work to defeat them in 2012,
and to reverse it completely. Regardless of any good intentions, this is
another legislative atrocity. |

Freezing federal
pay - while government growth continues |
|
November 29, 2010 -
Citing deficit, Obama freezing federal worker pay - and
Obama calls for 2-year freeze on federal pay - He is still
keeping 2.2 million federal employees - and growing. To put this in
perspective, look up the total federal government employment (non
military, and excluding the Post Office) before 1900, and ask yourself
whether we really need 40 - 50 times more federal employees today for 3
- 4 times more population. Do you really think that is worth the
investment in such federal overhead as a burden on every business and
taxpayer in America, or could that be part of the problem with our
global competitiveness and the flight of industrial investment and jobs
to other countries?
Rather than freeze salaries, we need to completely get
rid of large parts of the federal government which are not really
essential. If they did not already exist, would we vote to raise our
taxes to fund such operations now? If not, we should cut them rather
than give them eternal life and growing budgets and staff. |

Chart of federal employment, excluding the postal
service, from 1990 - 2010, from the
US
Bureau of Labor Statistics. This shows how the data spikes
with temporary and part-time Census workers.
Do you think we could live with 1.8 million federal
employees as at the end of the 1990's, rather than around 2.2 million
today? Why do we need a 20% larger federal workforce today?
How about getting back to the even lower levels in the early 1960's,
before the "Great Society" programs? For reference, before World
War II under FDR the total was up to around 500,000, and quickly
escalated in wartime as shown to over 2.5 million.
Soon after the Civil War, the total was closer to
50,000 to serve a US population of roughly 75 million rather than 310
million today. That's more than 40 times as many employees now for
4 times the population. Can you imagine what it would be like
today if the number of federal employees was only 200,000, rather than
2.2 million? The government likes to cite the budget as a % of
GDP, as though it should be indexed to economic growth. In effect,
that punishes private sector productivity by raising the federal
overhead, while state and local governments do the same. |

Chart of federal employment, excluding the postal
service, from 1939 - 2003, from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Some of the decline in employment in the 1990's may be attributed to the
outsourcing of federal work which is still being performed at government
expense, but not by direct employees, and is therefore categorized in
other service sector data series. If so, then a return to above
2.2 million federal employees, as before 1994, would not really be the
same thing unless such outsourcing was reduced, such as by the Civil
Service taking over such functions again.
Without a more detailed analysis of the specific
changes in the federal workforce composition from 1994 to 2010 it is
hard to draw reliable conclusions about the trends, but the key point is
simple. This country did very well in the past with far fewer than
the 2.2 million federal employees today, so it is hard to believe that
we couldn't cut the federal workforce by 20% or more, and the related
budget spending for their work. Instead, it is a question of the
political will to make tough choices to cut or eliminate programs which
are not essential, even if they are popular with some groups of voters.
Spending other people's money is always politically popular with the
perceived beneficiaries of such spending. Voters need to make it
popular for politicians to reduce spending and taxes, rather than
perceiving federal spending and debt as somebody else's problem. |
|
Restore the federal
bureaucracy and UN to lower emission targets - Cut staff by 85%
or more. If UN or federal bureaucrats think such industry targets
for emission reductions are reasonable, let them start by restoring
their own bureaucracy and budget to pre-1900 levels to dramatically
reduce their own "carbon footprint" and hot air. That should free
up a lot of private capital to invest more efficiently in the
development of new technologies for real demand. (That's right -
the UN didn't even exist before 1900, so that's a big opportunity for
50+ year improvements.) |

just like so many of the attack ads in the election. What ever

ANALYSIS: GM's return may help Obama in Midwest - Let's see now.
The government invested $50 billion. GM has about 50,000 employees
left. That works out to about $1 million per employee.
Stockholders and bond holders were largely wiped out in the process,
unlike a normal bankruptcy reorganization process, while the labor
unions got bailed out and wound up with a large degree of control of the
new company. Now Obama alleges that this saved 1 million jobs,
using math that is even more fuzzy than the rest of his absurd stimulus
claims. We're supposed to be impressed? How many careers in
this industry have been destroyed by relentless federal intervention in
the auto industry over the years? He is absolutely delusional to
regard this as a success - just like his congratulatory message about
the midterm election. |

November 18, 2010 - Have ideas to solve the deficit?
Tell Michele Bachmann via Facebook. Example:
Do a continuing resolution based
on 2008 or earlier budget levels - not the inflated 2010 spending levels
or 2011 budget proposals. Then push to roll back to 2004 levels by
pay-go offsets against any bills which seek to increase spending above
the 2008 level for some reason. Then raise the bar by pushing for
cuts to 2000 spending levels. If the govt could function on 2000
spending levels, it can still do so today - like businesses or voters
whose income or savings were wiped out by the last two recessions.
When the government gets back to
2000 spending levels, let's start working towards 1990 levels. We
still had more than enough federal government spending at the end of the
Reagan years, and consumer price inflation should not be used to adjust
spending levels. Any increase should be debated and justified.
It's a question of taking a hard look at priorities now that resources
are limited. Roll back taxes as the spending goes down so that
taxpayers see the reward of doing this, and so that the continued
benefits and growth of such tax savings are predictable enough to
encourage more private investment.. |

Sen. DeMint forces battle within GOP over earmarks - McConnell
is trying to argue that earmarks are not additional spending, but rather
just the discretionary allocation of appropriations to specific projects
- as though the budgets would be the same, with or without them.
Nice try. If members want to fund pet projects which they deem
worthy, then cut the departmental budgets and pass separate legislation
which justifies the special projects they want, so that all members and
voters know what they are funding, rather than just having such projects
buried as earmarks in legislation. |

Bad news Democrats - 2012 could be worse than 2010 - We're
working on it already. There will be many vulnerable Senators in
2012, as well as House members who will face primary fights or even
tougher elections. Think of the 2010 primaries as Lexington and
Concord. Nobody took the disorganized and poorly resourced patriots
seriously as a threat to the great and powerful rulers of their time. It
may take us a few election cycles to peacefully rid ourselves of these
modern tyrants, and it will take some sacrifice to do it, but don't
think this is over. We're just getting started. |

Victorious GOP sets out to repair image - It really needs to
repair far more than "image" - such as the organization at the state and
local level so that the leadership becomes more responsive to Republican
voters, not vice versa. The GOTV performance in 2012 needs to be
much better - and that means the organization needs to be rebuilt in
2011 and 2012 so that voters actually have some connection to the party
at the local level, and a sense of engagement and ownership, rather than
just watching the national "leaders" recite talking points on TV. |

It's not a big mandate for the GOP to celebrate a return

both parties. This country isn't all about the politicians and their big
government ideas, special interest deals with their cronies, and
false promises. They don't run this country. They are supposed to run

Surge by State pages are a starting point
for finding many conservative resources in each state.
See "Tea Party Tactics"
for local action suggestions. Don't just call or write your
members of Congress. Get in their face. Make it personal.
Check their schedule of public appearances. Show up. Speak
up. Talk to your friends and colleagues. Get involved
locally. Stand up and be heard. Find candidates who you can
enthusiastically support, and work hard to defeat those who lost your
trust. |

AARP members: Save your money, and your life. If you
oppose how AARP has handled the health care legislation, including their
ad campaign and mailings to promote it with your money and in cooperation with SEIU while pretending to be a non-partisan advocate for seniors, then
please cancel your membership and let them know why you are doing so.
Spend your money more wisely. Encourage every senior you know to
wake up to what AARP has done lately, and resign. Check out
American
Seniors Association, as mentioned in this August 18 Fox News story
about the
AARP losing 60,000 members already. Another option is the

Thank you to the hundreds of thousands of Americans who helped to
make the 800+ nationwide Tax Day Tea Party
protests such a remarkable success on April 15, 2009. There were
also many more Tea Party rallies on July 4th,
2009

This is not anti-Obama or anti-anybody, nor driven by political parties
or special interest groups. This is about standing up for
individual responsibility and limits on federal government power
and political or bureaucratic intrusion into state, local, and individual
decisions.
This isn't about venting anger at those who disagree
with us. It is about standing up for what we firmly believe as
fundamental American principles which should not be hastily changed
after serving us well for so long. This is about taking individual
responsibility for America's future. |
|
Our Surge by State pages will share
local Tea Party information and other relevant links. If you are
planning a Tea Party - regardless of date - or are responsible for any
other local conservative organizations which we have not yet listed, we
welcome suggestions to help us update these pages. |

June 21, 2009 - Obama's poll numbers finally
turned negative. That has continued.
Rasmussen Reports - Daily Presidential Tracking Poll - Buyer's
remorse since the election. Despite personal charisma, spin, and
high hopes for change, people are waking up to the harmful Obama agenda.
Note that young people who had high hopes for Obama may quickly become
disillusioned with his performance as the dismal economy and
unemployment picture gets worse rather than better. Meanwhile,
seniors finally woke up to their own risks during the health care debate
in July and August.
Generic
Congressional ballot poll
- Comment: The obvious point
is that the country has roughly been split 40-40 for a long time, with 20% uncommitted to
either party. Last time, frustration favored the Democrats.
Not likely in 2010. You can't fool all of the people all of the
time. They're waking up. It is also possible that many
frustrated people who usually don't vote may finally choose to
participate.

Keep it simple. Send a clear message
to Washington. If you do this, we will work hard to defeat you
in 2010.
They have already rammed through new spending and their social agenda at
a high cost which will hurt generations of Americans, but keep ramping up
the pressure. |

Invest in the America which you want to
create. Cut your losses. Invest in limiting
government. Get involved. Don't wait for somebody else to
solve this problem for you. |
