Former Texas Rep. Charlie Wilson dies at 76 - and
later version - Comment: One of
the few Democrats who I will miss. Thank you, Charlie, for having the
integrity to stand up for the Afghans when few in Washington would stick
their political necks out to do so, even in a very limited way. Both the
Carter and Reagan administrations didn't "get it", and the result was
horrific and contributed directly to the many problems which persist
today in the region.

of the world, but at least it exposed what happens when we become
indifferent to ruthless tyranny.
